Skip the regular lines by using Disney's Free Fast Pass+ System
Wouldn’t be nice if you were able to skip some of the regular lines for rides and attractions while at Walt Disney World? Well, the good news is you can and the better news…it’s FREE! Walt Disney World offers a way for all guests to have the chance to skip standby queues for some of your favorite and most popular rides.
What is Fast Pass+?
A Fast Pass+ is a digital reservation system that allows guests to select rides, attractions or shows without waiting the in the regular lines. This comes in handy for popular rides such as Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Space Mountain and Slinky Dog Dash. During the busy season, lines for popular attractions can get up 2 hours or more in the regular standby queue. Having a Fast Pass+ reservation allows you to enter a separate dedicated line that reduces your wait time. I’ve personally never waited more than 30 minutes in the Fast Pass+ line. Sounds alot better than 2 hours doesn’t it?!
Any one going to Walt Disney World with valid ticket admission gets 3 Fast Passes a day. For example, If you purchase a 4 Day ticket, you get 3 Fast Passes for each of the four days you are there. That’s 12 total. There is even a way to get more but that’s for another time, let’s focus one the main 3 for right now. FP+ selections can be reserved up to 30 days in advance for guests not staying on Disney property and 60 days in advance if you stay at a Disney resort. This is one of the many perks you receive when you book a complete Disney Vacation Package. want to know the benefits of staying at a Disney Resort, click here.
The following image is taken from the Wait Times guide in the My Disney Experience app of Magic Kingdom(Didn’t know that was a thing? I’m telling you, have Disney Pro on your side when you go!). The rides that are at 110 and 115 minutes are Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Space Mountain. If you are using a Fast Pass, your wait time is drastically reduced.
How do I get Fast Pass+ reservations?
There a 2 ways to get Fast Pass+:
- Through your My Disney Experience account
- Kiosk in the parks
One of the services I provide is getting you set up and familiar with a My Disney Experience (MDE) account and assisting with reservations. This is your lifeline to your Disney vacation. MDE keeps track your plans, special events that might be going on and remind you of any experiences such as character meet and greets and firework show times at whatever park you are in. It also tells you when and where your reservations are, such dining, princess makeovers, VIP tours and of course, the Fast Passes!
The BEST way to get Fast Pass+ selections will be through My Disney Experience. This allows you get reservations to rides before you travel. FP+ selections can be made up to 60 days before your arrival date and believe me when I say, people take this very seriously. Fast Passes are not unlimited. If it was, then it would be like standing in a regular queue and defeat the whole purpose of Fast Pass+. This part of planning can make a big difference when you’re trying to fill in as much as you can in a day. And if you need to change them at any time, you can!
Fast Pass+ Attractions That Are The Hardest To Get
Not all Fast passes are created equally and sometimes it can require a bit of brainstorming. You need to factor in which park you will be in, the location of the ride and how long it will take you to get there. You also want to be sure you don’t overlap them during a dining reservation(Don’t worry, that ‘s what I am here for). There are hundreds of attractions to choose from but as you probably guessed, the best rides go first. There are a certain number of Fast Passes given for each attraction everyday. The following are the most popular and can easily get booked up at the 60 day mark:
- Avatar Flight of Passage
- Navi River Journey
- Kilimanjaro Safari
- Slinky Dog Dash
- Hollywood Tower of Terror
- Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
- Peter Pan's Flight
- Space Mountain
- Soarin
- Frozen Ever After
- Test Track
How Can I Get A Fast Pass+ For My Favorite Ride?
The simplest way to put it is Plan Ahead! The more you plan ahead the better your chances! Fast Pass+ selections can be made as soon as you hit your 60 day advance window when you stay at a one of Disney’s onsite resort and hotels. Guests who are staying off site can book their Fast Pass+ selections 30 days in advance. If you plan on going to Disney World and one of your must haves is to ride one of the popular attractions, you may want to consider staying onsite. Its not unheard to get a FP+ for a popular ride at 30 days but many times they can already be booked up. If you plan on staying onsite, you want to make sure you have your vacation booked before 60 days for the best chance of getting the attraction you want.
The good news is that Disney Vacation Packages only require $200 for a deposit and when you book through Platinum Mouse Vacations, you are booking with an agency that is an authorized Disney Vacation Planner at no extra charge.
